As the very first agency in Denmark, we have created an abandoned cart email that is 100% AI-generated!
We've generated the email with dynamic blocks that show which product has been left in the cart, and all the text has been written with Alvas, which is powered by GPT-4, a counterpart to ChatGPT. And this is also done dynamically - so every single email sent out will have unique copy written by Alvas.
This project was launched in collaboration with Shaping New Tomorrow (and their clients) and the software tool Alvas.ai. The goal was to optimize the personalization of emails and, by extension, conversions - in an automated manner.
AI has taken the world by storm, and you don't have to scroll far down your LinkedIn before you encounter the topic - several times.
Even though AI has made its entrance in many industries, it has been slightly overlooked in the realm of email. Naturally, it's used by copywriters to help write newsletters, but we haven't seen it utilized in such a unique format and on the scale that we've attempted.
Personalization has always been a major topic in email marketing, but it has always been impossible in automated emails to write completely unique messages - the amount of work would be overwhelming.
But with Alvas, that has changed...!
Below are two examples of abandoned cart emails, sent on the same day to two different customers:
What makes it different?
Subject line:
Every single subject line will be different and tailored to the individual subscriber.
Headline:
Just like the subject line, the headline will change from email to email and is also optimized to only take up one line.
Body text:
In the main text, we include information on the products in the cart (e.g., product name or description) and data on the subscriber (e.g., their name and the city they live in).
Footer:
And at the bottom, we conclude the email in a personal tone.

And there's no doubt about it if you ask us.
Although we've only just started the project and it's set up as an A/B test, we can already see a significant change in click rate and placed-order rate compared to Shaping New Tomorrow's regular abandoned cart emails:
A 66% increase in the number of placed orders.
At the same time, the value per order increased by 21.79%.
And revenue per email has increased by a whopping 102.38% - that's double!
It's already crystal clear that AI offers opportunities that simply haven't been available before.
That's why we will, for both Shaping New Tomorrow and many of our other partners and customers, be looking more into how we can use it. And we do this, among other things, together with Alvas.ai and their founders.

One of the very first things we will look into is expanding the portfolio from focusing on the abandoned cart flow to also including AI-generated emails in other parts of the customer journey - for e-commerce, B2B, and Enterprise companies.
